Who can check the box?

Everyone is welcome to join the donor registry. Because becoming a donor is rare, more registered people can increase the odds that those in need get a transplant!

Should my age or health stop me from checking the box?

There’s no age limit on saving lives! You can register as a donor as soon as you get your driver’s permit, and anytime thereafter. The oldest donor was 95 years old and most health conditions don’t prevent donation. Medical advances allow people with many chronic conditions to donate, so don’t rule yourself out – register!

Is my life the priority?

Yes. If you are taken to the hospital after an accident or injury, it’s the hospital’s number one priority to save YOUR life. Your donor status is not revealed until doctors have exhausted all options to save your life.

How does the waiting list work?

The waiting list is actually a pool of people. Factors such as blood type, body size, location, severity of illness and length of time on the waiting list are used to determine the best candidate for an organ.

What can be donated?

Organs: Heart, lungs, liver, kidneys, pancreas, and intestines.
Tissue: Skin, veins, tendons, bone, heart valves and connective tissue.
Eyes: Whole eye or cornea.
